Our products are not tested on animals, but we always recommend using them as directed according to our warning labels. Keep your P.F. products out of reach from pets (and children too!) since certain essential oils can irritate the skin or be toxic to some animal breeds. Smaller animals can be especially sensitive to their environments— please use caution using fragranced products around them. If you have questions or concerns about using P.F. products around your pet, please consult your veterinarian for the best advice regarding your furry friend.

We set high standards about the ingredients we use because we know you’re using our products around people you love; we only produce what we'd personally use at home with our own families. Like all household products, make sure to use ours as directed and keep out of reach of pets + children. What’s the difference between natural and synthetic fragrance ingredients in P.F. Candle Co. products?

We believe that both natural and synthetic ingredients have a place in fragrance formulation, and that safety and sustainability are far more nuanced than is often implied. The term “synthetic” is commonly misunderstood as inherently negative, while “natural” is often assumed to mean safe. In reality, all fragrance materials, regardless of origin, are complex compounds that require extensive research, testing, and regulation to determine safe and appropriate use.

Naturally derived aroma chemicals contribute significant depth and character, but these ingredients are vulnerable to climate, weather, pollution, and human activity. These factors can make natural materials resource-intensive to produce and lead to variability in consistency, quality, and availability. Synthetics, by contrast, are created in a lab, allowing for precise replication, consistent safety standards, humane alternatives for controversial materials (such as musks), and more sustainable options. For example, producing just one pound of rose essential oil can require up to 10,000 roses, plus the water, energy, labor, and time required to process them.  By thoughtfully combining natural and synthetic ingredients, we can consistently create high-quality, safe, and accessible fragrances while balancing sustainability and performance.
