Holiday DIY: Orange Garland
With the Thanksgiving holiday behind us, it’s time to showcase our Christmas decorations and create the festive atmosphere we look forward to every year. One of our favorite DIYs during the holidays is making orange garlands to hang around the tree, above mantles, and to frame doorways. The soft citrus scent wafting through the air is just so nostalgic and cozy and puts us in a super festive mood. Oranges represent good luck and prosperity, and after you’re done using them as decoration, they are totally compostable!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Preheat your oven to 170 degrees. Rinse your oranges and cut them into even ⅛” slices. After they’re sliced, pat them dry on both sides and neatly line them on a piece of parchment paper on a baking sheet. Bake for 2-3 hours, or until they are fully desiccated, with a light golden color, and the edges are slightly curled. Let them cool, and using your needle and preferred thread, gently poke a hole and weave your thread through until you have the desired length of garland. You can also add additional elements like greenery, cinnamon sticks, and hearty herbs.
HOW TO DECORATE WITH GARLAND
Hang them up on your wall to frame a room or existing art, or around a door frame to add a festive touch.
Wrap the garland around your Christmas tree for a traditional look and a pop of color.
Use dry orange slices to decorate wreaths.
Place dry orange slices throughout your table scape for texture and color.
The finishing touch to create your ideal holiday atmosphere? Light scented soy candles throughout your space for a soothing glow and intoxicating fragrance. Need to stock up on your fave P.F. scents?
We also love to get a simmer pot going, check out our how to here. There are so many options to have fun while decorating your space this season, and it’s the perfect way to spend time with your favorite people while making something by hand that’s easy on the environment and fun to make.
