What the Hell Is That Smell? Ozone | Common Scents: The P.F. Candle Co. Blog

What aromas do you think of when referring to fresh, open air? What does that feel like? Ozone is exactly that. This fragrance ingredient has an airy, fresh aroma. Think of a cool, dewy breeze on the coastline, or a crisp,2 spring day right before it rains. Ozone gives the feeling of open-air and space and adds the fresh, airy facet to marine fragrances. You can find this pleasant top note in our newest seasonal scent, Saltwater Jasmine.

WHAT IS IT?

The winds pick up and clouds begin to roll in. Before it begins to rain a sweet and calming aroma engulfs your nostrils. That's the crisp, fresh scent of ozone — a form of oxygen whose name comes from the Greek verb ozein, meaning to smell. Ozone is reminiscent of stormy weather because, scientifically, a thunderstorm's downdrafts typically carry ozone from higher altitudes to nose level, leading to that wet and crisp aroma.

WHAT DOES IT SMELL LIKE?

Ozone is the natural scent of freshness, an effervescent and slightly sharp aroma that leans on the clean side. Its marine character is reminiscent of a cool ocean breeze, and has a slightly green characteristic with an aquatic and crisp profile.

You can find ozone in Saltwater Jasmine, a clean, marine, and floral seasonal scent. Inspired by coastal mornings wrapped in a cool marine layer and the soft warmth of the rising sun peeking through, as the heady scent of wild white blossoms lingers in the air. Find it now online and at both of our LA and SF candle stores for a limited time!

Ozone is known as O3, meaning 3 oxygen atoms are bonded together. How do you get this gas into the candle or is Ozone a fragrance meant to represent the smell of this gas? If it is a fragrance representing the gas then what is it made of?
Thank you.

The Amber & Moss soap refill has been out of stock for a very, very long time. As people who deeply care about our environment, we hope it will be back in stock soon. Do you have an estimate of when it will be available?
