A Self-Care DIY

We’re big fans of DIYs, and today we’re sharing our favorite self-care project, perfect for those nights in when we’re in need of restorative rituals that will recharge our body and mind. Now, not everyone has access to a roomy tub to soak in, and this recipe is easily adaptable to make shower steamers that will fill your hot shower with the same aromatherapy benefits as a bath. Just make sure to avoid adding skin-friendly oils to your mixture, like jojoba oil used in our recipes, as these can cause your shower floor to become slippery posing a safety risk (we don’t want you to get hurt!) The best part of this DIY is that it’s perfect for others to join in and the essential oils are customizable to your liking and needs.

How to Make 'Em
In a large bowl, combine all the dry ingredients including baking soda, citric acid, epsom salt, and cornstarch and mix well, making sure there are no clumps. In a small bowl, combine the jojoba oil (if you’re making bath bombs but skip if you’re making shower steamers), essential oils, and water. Pour the liquid mixture into the large bowl with the dry ingredients. The mixture will fizz once the liquid touches it, but don’t worry! Begin mixing using a fork, or your hands, until everything looks combined and somewhat moist and holds together when pressed. If the mixture is somewhat dry, add a tablespoon of water at a time until it clumps together.

Set up your molds and fill them. If using a bath bomb mold, add any herbs or flowers first and then fill them halfway with your mixture and press it into the molds firmly. The key to bath bombs is packing them tight, if you don’t press down firmly, the bombs will not hold together. Make sure you keep pressing down every time you add a little of the mixture to the mold to really pack it in.

Divide the rest of the mixture into the molds and again press down firmly. If you’re using a bath bomb mold, make sure you pack the mixture tightly on each half and then close the mold to form a ball. If you’re using another type of mold, make sure you add little by little and pack it tightly to get a nice, clean shape.

Once you have packed your molds tightly with the mixture, remove them from the mold and put them on parchment paper to dry. Let them sit for 24-48 hours until they’re fully dry. Once the bath bombs or shower steamers are dry, transfer them to an airtight container with care or wrap them nicely if you’re gifting them.

How to Use 'Em
Fill your tub with water, throw the bath bomb in, sit back, and enjoy. Shower steamers can be placed on the floor of your shower and will fizz and release their aroma as the water touches them. Light a P.F. scented soy candle before jumping into a hot bath or shower and enjoy the glow and aroma while doing other self-care routines, for the ultimate grounding experience.
