We’re Climate Neutral Certified!

Earlier this year, we embarked on the journey of becoming Climate Neutral Certified to become completely carbon neutral. We’ve learned so much along the way and are excited to continue to reduce our impact on our environment.

Our journey began by joining forces with Climate Neutral. This organization helps businesses measure their carbon output, create carbon reduction plans, and ultimately become carbon neutral. With their help, we’ve been able to not only learn about and measure the carbon emissions we produce, but have found alternatives that will create less of an impact on our environment.

Now that we have received our calculation, we are offsetting our carbon emissions by purchasing carbon credits. One carbon credit removes or avoids one tonne of carbon emissions. What does this mean? One carbon credit is a certificate generated when someone eliminates or prevents the emission of one metric tonne of greenhouse gas emissions. Climate Neutral has created a strong third-party verification system to ensure these carbon credits are actually occurring and offsetting. They give us the opportunity to offset our carbon emissions by investing in carbon reduction and removal products, like clean energy and reforestation.

What are the next steps? Carbon Neutral requires all brands to develop and implement a reduction action plan (RAP) to reduce their emissions over the next 12-24 months. As there is a yearly recertification process, we have put these plans into action to get re-certified. Next year, our Development team will also be focusing on reducing packaging as part of our Carbon Footprint Reduction action plan, and this is only the beginning.

 

 

To put it simply, starting this journey has been a long-time goal for us. We are super excited as a team to continue to implement innovations to our processes that will have a positive impact on our environment and our community. Stay tuned for more updates!
