Our Climate Neutral Certification Journey

We believe change begins at the top, and since the beginning of P.F., it has been a goal of ours to refine our practices and create the least amount of impact on our environment. The process to become Climate Neutral Certified has been a months-long effort to measure, offset, and reduce our carbon footprint. These are actions that, from brands to individuals, we can take now to offset and neutralize carbon emissions. We’re super excited to recertify this year alongside hundreds of Climate Neutral Certified brands in taking meaningful action for the environment.

Why now?

It’s no secret that 2021 was a challenging year. In the face of unexpected obstacles, radical pivots, and new ways of working, we’ve learned that we are able to face big challenges as individuals, a team, and a society. Globally, we emit almost 60 billion tonnes of greenhouse gasses every year, and in 2020, P.F. was responsible for 2,536 tonnes of carbon emitted.

We’re taking action to not only inspire others to do the same, but because it’s the right thing to do to hit the 2050 goals science tells us we need to achieve. We’re acting now because scientifically-vetted solutions to climate change exist, and they are accessible to brands like ours.

How did we get here?

We worked with Climate Neutral as we measured and offset last year's carbon emissions, and identified ways to reduce future emissions. This process took a significant amount of time and resources from our team, but ultimately it’s a reasonable cost compared to the threat of climate change. Here is a snapshot of the process:

Measure
We are currently measuring our 2021 carbon footprint. To arrive at this number, we looked at all of the emissions created from making and delivering our products, including our supply chain emissions, employee commuting, business travel, and utility bills.

Offset
We offset these emissions by purchasing verified carbon credits. These carbon credits supported a portfolio of projects including reforestation, renewable energy, and projects that help communities replace inefficient wood-burning cookstoves with more efficient, safer models.

Reduce
We’re currently working on creating new Reduction Action Plans to help lower our emissions over the next 12-24 months. Our customers deserve transparency, and we want to be transparent about how we’re working to live up to our claims of climate responsibility and hope that other brands will become inspired to take action.

What does it mean to be Climate Neutral Certified?

The hundreds of brands certifying this year all go through the same process to measure, offset, and reduce their emissions. Together, Climate Neutral Certified companies are working to eliminate more than 1,000,000 tonnes of carbon emissions — and this is only the beginning. These companies offer products and services across a wide range of industries, from apparel to media.
